Project: Kiskeya Project

Summary:

The Kiskeya Project aims to use regenerative agriculture practices such as Syntropic farming and sustainable bamboo farming to regenerate degraded landscapes in Haiti while providing food and education in permaculture design, syntropic farming, bamboo farming & architecture, and aircrete architecture. We hope to empower local entrepreneurs and women, as well as provide the infrastructure for economic opportunity and engagement in the fields of textiles, paper products, clean energy, architecture and tourism. By educating the populace for free in sustainable farming practices, we allow them to profitably and sustainably feed their family while sequestering carbon. By teaching the sustainable building styles, we protect the community from-natural disasters while empowering entrepreneurs. By building the infrastructure for bamboo timber, paper, and textiles, we open up brand new markets to people who have been traditionally left out.

Project Motivation:

I was told about this event today via word of mouth and I jumped at the opportunity to discuss the huge potential impact of this project for a country in dire need. The Haitian people are and have been suffering from problems that people all over the world have already found solutions for. The country is on the brink of collapse and the people are losing the ability to even grow food. With less than $500,000 we could make a large-scale exponential impact on the country's environment and its people. Who are we if we don't do what needs to be done?
