HACKATHON CHALLENGES
Capsule Hack has identified six challenge categories that intersect with the environment in meaningful, impactful ways. At Capsule Hack, we aim to develop innovative projects for problems at these intersections of the environment and six challenge categories: Art, Education, Energy, Health, Food, and Cities.
ENERGY
All of our hackathon challenge categories are intentionally broad in order to encapsulate the many energy-related ideas that have the potential to improve the planet. Everything is welcome—solar-powered plane designs, innovations on current energy consumption, strategies, financing models, energy storage, new energy sources, universal energy access—if you can dream it, we want to see it. Each of Capsule Hack’s challenges has one or more Challenge Partners. These Challenge Partners are passionate about their category and invested in supporting projects coming in under their challenge. Our Challenge Partner for Energy is Singularity.
Singularity
Singularity helps companies become carbon aware by helping app developers build applications that use real-time grid carbon data, helping analysts, policy makers and consultants see the historical carbon emissions with respect to energy consumption to predict future trends and draft effective sustainability goals, and by helping sustainability managers drive emission reductions using real-time data.

W Dusk Energy Group Inc. is an Indigenous owned firm that works to strengthen community development initiatives and support communities in becoming self-reliant through renewable energy empowerment with a systems based, community-driven approach. The firm sources, designs, builds and develops their projects with the community.
Founded to bring safer lighting solutions to off-grid communities who live in informal settlements and rural areas across South Africa, Shakti Energy is a South African startup that provides an alternative energy solution to thousands of households that do not have access to electricity. Shakti Energy works to fight energy poverty through rechargeable portable lights and mobile phones using a pedal powered generator.
Watty is a Swedish company that gives the power to control your home’s energy consumption and be more efficient, not to mention reduce your carbon emissions. Watty, in real time, tells users remotely via its Smartphone app what appliances are running in their home environment, how much energy consumption is being used, and what the historical energy consumption data for the house is.
