Project: Reducing Inequalities from My Community to Yours for Climate Change
Use the Slack Call feature to Meet With Your Team!
Summary:
Climate change unjustly impacts vulnerable communities. While consumption patterns in the Global North drive greenhouse gas emissions, communities in the Global South face climatic emergencies with socio-economic impacts that hinder development and access to basic human rights. We propose a direct exchange between communities to understand the challenges faced by others and co-design joint solutions for climate change. Many communities in the Global North are ready to take action against climate change beyond their government’s targets. The project will empower these communities to take direct action in favor of vulnerable communities in the Global South. They will grow their understanding of inequality caused by climate change and develop a model toward joint sustainable development. On the other hand communities in the Global South will have direct support for sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, and ecosystem services preservation and restoration.

Skills & Resources Needed:
This project needs interdisciplinary expertise. The project lead envisions contributing to access to health as well as nature preservation and restoration. It also has an important technical component to share ideas and knowledge and visualise the impact of climate change. More importantly, to truly move beyond colonising views it needs a participative methodology to have an equal exchange between communities.
Post-Capsule Goals:
Incubator Program
Accelerator Program
Launching Your Own Startup
Project Motivation:
The project lead, Paola Espinosa, graduated last year from the MPhil in Conservation Leadership at University of Cambridge. While living in the UK Espinosa experimented with how people are interested in climate change and inequalities but have few tools to address this directly. It all seems to be about how people rebalance the differences between the Global North and Global South, and this is a first step toward doing that.
